IS YOUR CHILD AN INDIGO?

INDIGO CHILDREN

Indigos, named after their supposed indigo-colored aura, are thought to be psychologically and spiritually gifted — a new generation of higher evolved humans believed to have been born in or after the 1980s. ____________________________________________
Indigos possess an increased psychic ability and awareness. Most often manifesting the ability to almost "hear" the inner thoughts and feelings of others. They also have an extreme sensitivity to negative energy in certain environments or people, including the inability to tolerate certain people who had previously been close. _______________________________________________________________
Indigos often develop obsessive anxieties about humans being destroyed (by pollution, lack of resources, aliens, technology etc). This is because multi-dimensional consciousness can access all levels of the group mind, including that part which holds the fears and anxieties about the survival of the species. Since the breed is often concerned about their own survival, they tend to resonate with this part of the group mind or morphogenetic field. An obsessive need to understand what is happening, leading to the mind becoming overactive and the person fearing they are losing it or suffering from "burn-out". _______________________________________________________________
Indigos have a warrior spirit, because their collective purpose is to break down old systems that no longer serve us. They are here to change the government, educational, and legal systems that lack integrity. To accomplish this end, they need tempers and firey determination. Those adults who resist change and who value conformity may misunderstand the Indigos. _______________________________________________________________
Indigo Children can sense dishonesty, like a dog can sense fear. Indigos know when they're being lied to, patronized, or manipulated. And since their collective purpose is to usher us into a new world of integrity, the Indigos inner lie-detectors are integral. As mentioned before, this warrior spirit is threatening to some adults. And the Indigos are unable to conform to dysfunctional situations at home, work, or school. They don't have the ability to dissociate from their feelings and pretend like everything's okay . . . unless they are medicated or sedated._______________________________________________
They are often mislabeled with the psychiatric diagnoses of Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) as many of the personality traits are similar. These include: difficulty listening and following instructions, being hyperactive, and being inattentive. Sadly, when they are medicated, The Indigos often lose their beautiful sensitivity, spiritual gifts, and warrior energy.

Humanist Indigo________________Hyperactive• Extremely social - talk to anyone, anytime. Friendly.• Very strong opinions.• Awkward in their body.• Play with all their toys at the same time.• Easily distracted.• Ferocious readers.• Going to work with and serve the masses.• Tomorrow's doctors, lawyers, teachers, salespeople, businesspeople, politicians.
Conceptual Indigo_________________ More into projects than people• Not clumsy in their body• Often very athletic as children• Control issues - mostly trying to control their mother if boys; their father if girls• Tendencies toward addictions, especially drugs in their teenage years• Tomorrow's engineers, architects, designers, astronauts, pilots and military officers
Artist Indigo_____________________ Much more sensitive• Oftentimes smaller in size, though not always• Creative• Between ages 4-15, may pick up 15 different creative arts - pick it up, put it down• In teenage years, will select one and become the artist in it• Tomorrow's teachers and artists, surgeons, researchers, actors, musicians
Interdimensional Indigo_______________Larger than all other Indigos• At one or two years of age, you can't tell them anything. They say, I know that...I can do it. Leave me alone.• Can be bullies because they're so much bigger and because they don't fit in like the other three types of Indigos• Will bring new philosophies and new religions into the world
_____________________________________________________________
Indigo children are extremely creative and often need a school environment where they can excel with a specialized curriculum. Many indigos struggle with academics since their class may not be structured appropriately for their needs.Indigos have been known to encounter many social challenges throughout their lives.
______________________________________________________________
Things such as shopping in a store and interacting with a sales clerk has proven to be difficult for them. They also have a higher than usual self esteem, leading them to believe they are better than everyone else. As a result, Indigos will often isolate themselves from their friends and family.

Since there is no standard assessment tool to diagnose Indigos, here are Ten traits to know if your child is an “Indigo Child”:

* They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it).
In other words, their parents are spineless idiots who are afraid to discipline their children to prevent “suppressing” their uniqueness!
* They have a feeling of “deserving to be here,” and are surprised when others don’t share that.
Ah yes, the “entitlement generation”.
* Self-worth is not a big issue; they often tell the parents “who they are.”
YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND! I am an indigo child!
* They have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice).
In other words, they have a hard time when someone says no because their parents never said no.
* They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.
Because their parents are their friends, not their parents. No one tells them no or disciplines them.
* They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and don’t require creative thought. I suppose I can let this pass, but again “I WANT to do it MY way!”
* They often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like “system busters” (nonconforming to any system).
Props on this one at least.
* They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they often turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.
Because NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME!
* They will not respond to “guilt” discipline (”Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did”).
* They are not shy in letting it be known what they need.

PARENTS & EDUCATORS OF INDIGO CHILDREN

Things to Remember When Raising Indigo Children:

-Be creative when setting limits & allow for extra physical energy.

-Without giving these children adult responsibilities, treat them as adults and peers.

-If you say you love them, but treat them in a disrespectful way, they will not trust you.

-Interacting with an Indigo is both work and a privilege.

DON'T FORGET: "They not only know who they are, they also know who you are. You cannot mistake the look of an Indigo Child's eyes and face- very old, deep, and wise. Their eyes are the window to their feelings and soul. They can't seem to "hide" like others can. When you hurt them, they will be disappointed in you, and may even question their wisdom in "choosing" you! But when you love them and recognize who they are, they will open up to you like no other."

Carroll, Lee & Tober, Jan. "The Indigo Children- the new kids have arrived. page 52-54.

"These kids can be very bright, very charming-and impossible to live with. They think of things that are fun and creative at the rate of about 10 per second. While you are trying to put out the fire they set toasting marshmallows on the stove, they are in the bathtub trying to see if goldfish will survive in hot water."

-Natasha Kern, mom, quoted by Nancy Gibbs in Time Magazine.
(Gibbs, Nancy. "The Age of Ritalin." Time Magazine, page 86. November 30, 1998.)

Ten Pointers for Parents of Indigos:
-BE HONEST
-DON'T MANIPULATE
-SHOW THEM RESPECT
-EMPOWER THEM
-RESPECT THEIR PSYCHIC SKILLS
-TEACH THEM ENERGY SHIELDING and GROUNDING SKILLS
-TEACH THEM RELAXATION SKILLS and MEDITATION
-RESPECT THEIR EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL SENSITIVITY
-FIND ALTERNATE THERAPY FOR ADD AND OTHER DISABILITIES
-HELP THEM DEVELOP AWARENESS OF THEIR INDIGO NATURE AND THEIR MISSION IN LIFE

Sternberg discusses how children need to be given proper balance when expressing creativity. “Children need to be able to engage in creative expression in the classroom without fear of ridicule or reprimand. The need for structure, discipline, self restraint, and respect for tradition and convention is as real and important as the need for freedom, spontaneity, innovativeness, and risk taking.”

Working towards the right balance can be a difficult task for teachers and parents. While the students need to be motivated and encouraged, it is also important for them to remain focused and respectful of their classmates. The teacher needs to make sure that they are adhering to all of the school’s rules and regulations. A supportive and nurturing environment seems to foster the greatest amount of creativity in both school and home.

All children need an appropriate level of balance including those who are indigos, gifted, ADD, and ADHD. In fact most adults need a mixed level of stimulation, down time, and creative time as well. It is important for teachers and parents to remember that indigos may express their creativity in a different manner than the typical student, simply due to the aggressive and emotional personality traits that they sometimes possess.

Nickerson, R.S. (1999). Enhancing Creativity. In Sternberg, R.J. (Ed.) Handbook of Creativity, Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press, 407 – 421

The Curriculum for Indigos should offer a wide range of complexity and high-level thinking that caters to varying learning styles. ___________________________________________________________________
Activities that include observing, grouping, classifying; restating, remembering, reviewing; comparing, contrasting; comprehending, understanding; reasoning, judging; applying; designing; and creating are designed to teach both simple and complex thinking.
____________________________________________________________________
Assessments can be used in forms of learning logs, presentations, posters, demonstrations, role-playing, product analysis, selected/specific criteria, written antecdoctal notes, conferences, and/or filmed diaries. Students should have the right to negotiate their options.

AN IDEAL ENVIRONMENT TO FOSTER THE INDIGOS CREATIVITY

Sternberg states: “There is reason to believe that environments that are both demanding and supportive are more conducive to the development of creativity than those that have much of one of these characteristics but little of the other”. There needs to be motivation, discipline and a positive atmosphere for a child to feel comfortable enough to learn and discover their true creative potential.

Nickerson, R.S. (1999). Enhancing Creativity. In Sternberg, R.J. (Ed.) Handbook of Creativity, Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press, 407 – 421

In Module 11, Professor Gallo describes Environments that Promote Creativity:
  1. "Value Originality"
  2. "Respect and reward the individuals who produce unusual ideas and innovations"
  3. "Provide opportunities, requests, and rewards for originality"
She also discusses how to Promote Imagination in Learning Environments:
  1. "A balance between freedom and responsibility"
  2. "A balance between perseverance and flexibility"
  3. "Room for spontaneity and self set goals"
The Ideal Environment Should:
  1. "Support the individual's trust in his or herself as a source of originality"
  2. "Convey unconditional respect for the individual and his or her ideas"
  3. "Invite active participation"
  4. "Foster curiosity"
  5. "Foster intrinsic motivation"
  6. "Integrate work and play by offering open-ended tasks"

Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences

Howard Gardner as an important influence on instruction because all children acquire knowledge through multiple intelligences, differentiating instruction to target the strengths of the learners in a classroom is extremely important. Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory includes Linguistic Intelligence, Logical/Mathematical Intelligence, Musical Rhythmic Intelligence, Body Kinesthetic Intelligence, Spatial Intelligence, Naturalistic Intelligence, Intrapersonal Intelligence, Interpersonal Intelligence, and Existential Intelligence (Wiles & Bondi, 2007, p. 167). Gardner expresses the importance of recognizing the multiple intelligences in instruction because all children learn how to employ language and its variety of uses differently. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Indigos are concerned with Interpersonal intelligence regarding the capacity to understand the intentions, motivations and desires of other people and Intrapersonal intelligence entails the capacity to understand oneself, to appreciate one's feelings, fears and motivations. ____________________________________________________
In addition to his 7 multiple Intelligences Gardner adds a naturalist intelligence, a spiritual intelligence and an existential intelligence.

________________________________________________________
"Naturalist Intelligence
enables human beings to recognize, categorize and draw upon certain features of the environment. It combines a description of the core ability with a characterization of the role that many cultures value."

Indigos have a sharp and keen sense or intuition if something does not feel right. They have the power to sense things before others will.

"Spiritual Intelligence speaks of an intelligence that explores the nature of existence in its multifarious guises. Thus, an explicit concern with spiritual or religious matters would be one variety - often the most important variety - of an existential intelligence."

Indigos are know for their psychic aura and sense of knowing what others are thinking. They can be classified as very spiritual individuals.

http://www.infed.org/thinkers/gardner.htm

"Existential intelligence
can be defined as the ability to be sensitive to, or have the capacity for, conceptualizing or tackling deeper or larger questions about human existence, such as the meaning of life, why are we born, why do we die, what is consciousness, or how did we get here."

Indigos are extremely sensitive individuals who always want to know why and question everything. They are so intelligent and curious about life, the world, themselves, and everything that surrounds them.

Various Perspectives on Creativity

"Creativity is the process of bringing something new into birth"(R. May, 1959)

"To be considered creative, a product or response must be novel...and appropriate" (Hennessey and Amabile, 1988)

"Creativity is the disposition to make and to recognize valuable innovations"(Lasswell, cited in Faburn, 1968)

"The creative process is any thinking process which solves a problem in an original and useful way" (Fox, cited in Faburn, 1968)

"Many creative ideas are the product of combining previously unrelated ideas" (Why Worry, Starring Harold Lloyd, 1923)

This last definition coincides with the scribble activities that we did this semester which allowed us to make a connection and relationship between our three scribble portraits. This gave us the opportunity to use our imaginations and to think outside the box!

Indigo Children, Crystal Children, and Lightworkers

Indigo children should not be confused with Crystal Children or Lightworkers. They all share some characteristics. All generations are highly sensitive and psychic, and have important life purposes. The main difference is their temperament.

Crystal Children are a special new "breed"of children rapidly populating our planet. They are happy, delightful, and forgiving. This generation of new lightworkers, roughly ages 0 through 7, are like no previous generation.

In contrast, The Crystal Children are blissful and even-tempered. They may have tantrums occasionally, but these children are largely forgiving and easy-going. The Crystals are the generation who benefit from the Indigos' trailblazing. First, The Indigo Children lead with a machete, cutting down anything that lacks integrity. The Crystal Children follow the cleared path, into a safer and more secure world. The terms, "Indigo" and "Crystal" were given to these two generations, because they most accurately describe their aura colors and energy patterns.

Indigo Children have a lot of indigo blue in their auras. This is the color of the "third eye chakra,"which is an energy center inside the head located between the two eyebrows. This chakra regulates clairvoyance, or the ability to see energy, visions, and spirits. Many of the Indigo Children are clairvoyant The Crystal Children have opalescent auras, with beautiful multi-colors in pastel hues.

Many of the Crystal Children have delayed speech patterns, and it's not uncommon for them to wait until they're 3 or 4 years old to begin speaking. The Crystals use a combination of telepathy, self-fashioned sign language, and sounds(including song) to get their point across. The trouble comes about when the Crystals are judged by medical and educational personnel as having"abnormal" speaking patterns. It's no coincidence that as the number of Crystals are born, that the number of diagnoses for autism is at a record high.

The diagnostic criteria for autism is quite clear. It states that the autistic person lives in his or her own world, and is disconnected from other people. The autistic person doesn't talk because of an indifference to communicating with others. Crystal Children are quite the opposite. They are among the most connected, communicative, caring, and cuddly of any generation. They are also quite philosophical and spiritually gifted. And they display an unprecedented level of kindness and sensitivity to this world. Crystal Children spontaneously hug and care for people in need.

Doreen Virtue. "The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children", 2001.

A Lightworker is a spiritual being who has incarnated on Earth. Their purpose is to awaken Humanity. They inspire others to develop their own unique abilities. Anyone can be a Lightworker. Any age group, gender, race, or religion. Lightworkers born since 1971 are usually referred to as "Starseeds." Lightworkers born from the 1980s are "Indigo Children." Each have their own individual and combined tasks to perform. Many Lightworkers chose to incarnate from the mid 1940s on. These special souls are called Baby Boomers. They are the parents of Starseeds and the grandparents of Indigo Children.

Hayden Panettiere (Indigo Child) literally grew up in front of the camera, a veteran of over 50 commercials when she landed a role on One Life to Live at age 4. Within a few years she was appearing in TV-movies and films, notably voicing the role of Dot in A Bug's Life and playing a succession of strong adolescents battling great odds, including cancer (twice) and child abuse. A string of impressive guest turns led to recurring roles on Ally McBeal (as the title character's long-lost daughter) and Malcolm in the Middle, as well as her first leading film role in 2005's Racing Stripes. In 2006, she donned a cheerleading outfit and held the fate of the world in her hands as one of the superpowered stars of the NBC drama Heroes. She is an active supporter of ALF (Animal Liberation Front), the second-ever recipient of The Wyler Award (which honors a celebrity who has raised awareness of animal issues) for her on-the-ground work to expose Japan's slaughter of dolphins. On January 28, 2008, Panettiere handed a letter of protest to the Norwegian ambassador in the United States arguing that Norway should stop its hunt for whales. She also delivered a letter to the Japanese ambassador calling for the end of Japan's hunting of whales. In 2007, Panettiere became an official supporter of Ronald McDonald House Charities and is a member of their celebrity board, called the Friends of RMHC. Another important issue she wants to raise awareness for—sexual harassment in the work place. Remember this, and remember this well people: "Sexual harassment is wrong. Even if it makes you feel good."

Placement of Gifted Students

For placement of gifted students, many school districts today are relying on intelligence or achievement test scores. An article in the Exceptional Children journal points out that this impacts the culturally and linguistically diverse students. These types of tests tend to cater to White and middle class students and have shown to be less effective for students who are in a demographic minority.

"There are at least three explanations for the poor test performance of culturally and linguistically diverse students:

  • test bias

  • the burden rests with the educational environment (poor instruction and lack of access to high quality education contributes to poor test scores)

  • burden rests with (or within) the student (he/she is cognitively inferior or culturally deprived)."

Emotional Giftedness

Davis discusses the concept of paranormal beliefs in chapter five.

These include:
  • psychic
  • creative
  • psychotic
  • ESP
  • flying saucers
  • ghosts
"Creative persons tend to be stronger believers in such psychical and mysterious matters as extrasensory perception (ESP), mental telepathy, precognition, astral projection (out of body experience), flying saucers, and spirits and ghosts.
Such beliefs may reflect the creative person's livelier imagination and openness to fantastic possibilities.
Extremely intelligent people may experience emotional giftedness, which includes-among many other characteristics-paranormal thinking."

Indigo Children

Indigo Children, Crystal Children, and more....

The Indigo Revolution Part 1 (2-10 available on youtube.com)

("The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived", "The care & Feeding of the Indigo Children", & "The Indigo Celebration") About the authors: After graduating with a business and economics degree from California Western University in California, Lee Carroll started a technical audio business in San Diego that flourished for 30 years. As an engineer, where do channelling and Indigo children fit into all this? As Lee tells it, God had to hit him “between the eyes” to prove his spiritual experience was real. The year 1989 was the turning point when the first psychic told him about his spiritual path, and then three years later when the second unrelated psychic told him the same thing! Timidly, the first writings were presented to the metaphysical community in Del Mar, California, and the rest is history—a total of nine metaphysical books were released in a seven-year span. There are now over a half a million books in print in 14 languages: Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Hebrew, English, Danish, Italian, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, and Turkish. Also represented are the languages of the Netherlands and Finland. Lee and his spiritual partner, Jan Tober, started the “Kryon light groups” in Del Mar in 1991 and quickly moved from a living-room setting to a Del Mar church. Now they’re hosting meetings all over the globe, with audiences of up to 3,000 people in Europe alone. In the beginning days of the Internet, Kryon had the largest consistent New Age folder in the history of America Online, and now attracts many more electronic browsers on his Website, which you can visit at [www.kryon.com]. Also on the Website is an on-line magazine where new Kryon and Indigo-related articles are featured regularly. Perhaps the most moving meeting with Jan and Lee occurred in Tel Aviv, Israel, in October 2000. Amid the strife and violent uprisings at that time in the Middle East, messages were given to a single group of more than 1,000 Israelites that were uplifting and positive. (This message is available on the Kryon Website, listed above.) In 1995, Lee and Jan were asked to present the Kryon work at the United Nations (U.N.) in New York City before a U.N.-chartered group known as the Society for Enlightenment and Transformation (S.E.A.T.). The meeting was so well accepted that they were invited back two more times, in 1996 and in 1998, to present their message of love! Lee is the author of nine Kryon books, and is the co-author (along with Jan) of The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived. The Indigo Child Website is: [www.indigochild.com].
